If you happen to recall the Construction photos, you may recall that the tunnel was made from chimney flue liners. This was fine until I purchased an Accucraft K-28. It seems the K-28 is about 1/64 inch wider than the chimney flue liner.

Consequently, I had to replace the tunnel.

For your review here is the old tunnel underconstruction. Here you can see the chimney flue liner covered with a rubber mat to keep out any moisture.

Here is a locomotive coming out of the old tunnel.

Work on the new tunnel was done in one day. 27 April 2006. This photo was taken at 10:28 AM.

The track has been removed where it crosses over the top of the tunnel and most of the dirt on the top of the tunnel has been excavated.

The entire tunnel has been removed.

Oh, were it that simple! The new tunnel material is wider than the old the the excavation has to be widened.

The new tunnel liner is dropped into the excavation. This is 12 inch drainage pipe.

Gravel surrounds the tunnel liner and dirt is starting to be placed back on top the tunnel.

The canyon is complete. Dirt is back on top of the tunnel. And fresh soil is added to the right and left of the canyon walls for new plants.
